Very thin walls…

These apartment walls are the thinnest I’ve ever experienced.
I get woken from a sound sleep and I can hear conversations quite distinctly; which, considering my difficulty hearing anything distinctly is almost miraculous.

My next door neighbour’s boyfriend comes over around midnight. It’s not what you think though. I know more than I want to about his fight with cancer. And his boyfriend’s pep talks.
If it were me, something I’ve been thinking about a fair bit lately, his pep talks wouldn’t help me at all. They’d just annoy me to death.

I’ve thought about getting dressed and banging on his door to let him know. Another thought I had was to take the mute off of my cello and do a short practice session, loudly. The thought being that if they commented to each other, “damn that noise”, it might cross their minds that their noise travels just as easily. That might be too subtle though….

I’m going to have to buy another white noise generator I think. 😦

Hanging quilts on the wall might not hurt.

Sounds like more interesting drama then a soap opera. I like real life drama..of others.

  3. I ended up going over and telling him. He grinned and said it was better than what I’d usually be hearing. 🙂
    But they quieted right down.
I figure it was only common decency to let them know, just in case they ever were talking about anything personal (like surviving cancer isn’t personal, but you know what I mean).

  4. Yeah Alyce, that’s a good idea. But I gave all my quilts (made by my grandma) to my cousins when I went homeless. I wanted them to stay in the family.
There are various sound dampening ideas around, I think I might start researching them. Good idea that. It’ll have to be something that doesn’t impact the apartment or leave large screw holes in the walls.
I know the old fashioned way of doing it was velvet drapes. I can’t afford velvet of course but I wonder if there is some other material that would work as well, or nearly so, that I could get from the fabric store and hang like curtains.
That would really bring out the interior decorator, though I’d say that designing my little truck camper already did that.
